A new analysis from the Election Reform Project looks at the recent presidential primary in New Jersey, while a report from the Maryland Attorney General examines issues that state had in its 2006 primary.

The 2008 presidential primary season has brought use of the internet as part of political campaigns to new heights, but for voters across the country, the web can prove just as helpful for gathering information such as when and where to vote. A new study from the Election Assistance Commission examines these voter information web sites, and lays out a set of best practices for use in the future.

Countries around the world—from long-established democracies like the U.S. to emerging ones like Zimbabwe—grapple with the fundamental issue of guaranteeing that their elections are fair and competitive. A new volume from Brookings Press explores ways to define, measure, and detect fraud, and, on May 21, the Election Reform Project will host a discussion on the book with its editors.

Maintaining accurate registered voter rolls requires coordination and energy both to add first-time registrants to the database and maintain accurate registration information for existing voters. This report provides recommendations to improve the accuracy of voter registration databases.
A case study on the registration process employed by Selective Service officials provides insight into how government agencies can collaborate to create accurate voter registration files.
Tova Andrea Wang makes the case for modernizing voter registration practices in the states, in the context of the upcoming gubernatorial elections in New Jersey and Virginia. Both states have large percentages of recently naturalized and first generation Americans.
The Committee to Modernize Voter Registration, composed of former state and federal lawmakers, state election administrators, election law experts, and academics was recently formed to advocate for an automated, transferable system to replace today's out-of-date and patchwork system.

The Brennan Center for Justice at New York University School of Law is a non-partisan public policy and law institute that focuses on fundamental issues of democracy and justice.
Center for Democracy & Election Management was established at the School of Public Affairs at American University in 2002. Their broader goal is to pave the way for and strengthen democracy through improved electoral performance.
electionline.org provides daily news updates on election reform issues, as well as deeper analysis of selected topics, including recent reports on voter registration, recount procedures, and the progress in implementing the Help America Vote Act since 2002.
Project Vote is a national nonpartisan, nonprofit 501(c)(3) that works to empower, educate, and mobilize low-income, minority, youth, and other marginalized and under-represented voters.
