Through a grant program administered through the Election Assistance Commission, five states received funding to improve electronic election data collection in 2008. This report provides the results from an evaluation of these five states’ projects. Overall, the grantees increased their level of core data collection, improving to 80 percent of the core data from less than half in 2006. Other key findings focused on scheduling data collection deadlines to fit in the election schedule, constant coordination with local election officials, implementing pilot programs, and training system users properly.
